Remember the Upcoming Authors in the Afternoon at the Library!
In partnership with the Friends of Lumpkin County Library, the library will be hosting the next in the series, “Authors in the Afternoon.” This is a free series of presentations by local authors who will be on hand at the library to talk about one of their current works. Each author will give a presentation followed by a Q & A session. Books may also be signed and/or purchased from the authors as well. Join us for the second of these events, which will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.
Retired University of North Georgia professor, Dr. Douglas Young, will be our guest for the April event and will be talking about his debut novel, Deep in the Forest (Newman Springs Publishing, 2021). The following is an excerpt from a book review on barnesandnoble.com: “Young writes about Elton Peabody-- a thirty-five year old high school history teacher in a small Southern town who has a terrifying experience one night with a mysterious bright light deep in the forest behind his house. Did he encounter a UFO? A secret government project? A high-tech prank? Angels? A mental breakdown? Or something else? This is his journey to understand what happened and move on with his life in the face of increased public scrutiny. His story encompasses family dynamics, the drama of a sheriff’s election, high school life as seen from a young teacher’s perspective, friendship, lots of humor, a search for religious meaning, summoning the courage to face one’s fears, and taking risks for romance. Initially, it may sound like this novel falls squarely in the genre of science fiction. However, Dr. Young describes Deep in the Forest as a story that doesn’t fit into one genre, offering elements of romance, drama, comedy, and more.
Dr. Young is a graduate of the University of Georgia, having earned his B.A., M.A. and PhD in political science. Upon his retirement with professor emeritus status, Dr. Young embarked upon a new path to fulfill his dream of being a full-time writer. Please join us at the library on April 14 to hear about his inspiration as an author that has culminated in the inspiring tale Deep in the Forest.
Dr. Young’s presentation will begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Q & A session, and the opportunity to purchase signed copies of his books. Light refreshments will be served. Following the author presentation, the public is invited to attend the April meeting of the Friends of Lumpkin County Library, to be held at 4:30 p.m. This would be a great time to find out more about all the great things that the Friends of the Library does to support YOUR library. You may also visit the Friends website at: https://www.lumpkinlibraryfriends.com/ As a bonus at this event, the lucky winner of the Friends of the Library Year of Chocolate fundraising raffle will be drawn!
