Lumpkin County Family Connection Family Advocate

The Family Advocate works collaboratively with teachers, families, and community partners to support children enrolled in the Lumpkin County School System. This role focuses on building strong, trusting relationships with families, advocating for their needs, and connecting them with appropriate resources and services.

In partnership with parents, help identify family strengths and needs, establish goals, and provide ongoing support through case management, education, and referrals. We are looking to hire either 2 part time advocates or 1 full time advocate that will report to the Executive Director.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Provide comprehensive case management services, including family assessments, goal setting, and ongoing support.
  • Assist families in identifying strengths, needs, and strategies to achieve stability and success.
  • Plan and facilitate parenting groups and educational sessions.
  • Deliver crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Educate families on topics such as parenting skills, budgeting, educational success, home safety, and household management.
  • Model effective advocacy and professional communication when working with schools, agencies, and service providers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources and social service trends.
  • Assist families in accessing transportation to community services when needed.
  • Collaborate with Family Connection staff to deliver coordinated and comprehensive services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records and documentation.

Community Engagement and Program Coordination

  • Collaborate with community agencies to ensure families receive a continuum of care.
  • Evaluate services currently utilized by families and identify additional needs.
  • Make referrals and ensure appropriate follow-up to confirm access to services.
  • Coordinate case conferences with community partners as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local agencies to promote communication and collaboration.
  • Support the coordination of volunteers and donations for the Student Outreach Center.
  • Participate in committees and assist with fundraising and community awareness events.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and case staffing sessions.
  • Support and provide parenting education to individuals and groups.
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Maintain professionalism and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, schools, and community partners.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive environment that values all children and families.
  • Represent Family Connection at community meetings and events as appropriate.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Provide services in various locations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, including EEO and non-discrimination policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field required, or a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience working with children and families in a social services, education, or community-based setting.
  • Knowledge of community resources and service systems for children and families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with low-income, culturally diverse populations.

  • Position responsibilities and location may change based on funding availability.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Complete all required trainings and ongoing professional development.
  • Submit monthly case management reports to meet grant requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
